For over 300 years (1664 - 1970's), the Todd family lived and worked the land, passing the property from father to son for 10 generations.
The Memorial to Gassaway Watkins held at his grave site was well attended by numerous hereditary and community groups including Boy Scouts of America, Girls Scouts of America, Honor Guard, Maryland Sons of the American Revolution, War of 1812 Society, Society of the Cincinnati, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of 1812. There were musicians, bagpipes, musket-firing and the laying of wreaths from numerous heads of various organizations including MDSSAR State President Don Deering and Past President James Engler as well as Color Guard Commander Dave Embrey.
On June 5th at 10am, the Col. John Eager Howard Chapter is holding its Annual Memorial at the Old St. Paul’s Cemetery. With all the work the DAR has been doing to clean up the cemetery, we expect to see a greatly improved cemetery since our last memorial there two years ago. We will be there to honor our Chapter Namesake as well as the other Patriots including Signer of the Declaration of Independence Samuel Chase who are buried at this historic cemetery.
