Our Legacy of Leadership The Maryland Lifetime Service Award

W. King Barnes, Jr.

King joined the Maryland Society, Sons of the American Revolution in 1963 as a member of the Colonel Nicholas Ruxton Moore Chapter and has been a member in good standing for the last 59 years.  King was a member of the Children of the American Revolution and Sr. State President.

After serving several years as a chapter officer and chairman, he became President of his Chapter.

In 1984, King became Maryland’s 61st President – becoming the 3rd youngest State President in our history.  King and his father are the 2nd father and son Maryland Society Presidents.  His mother was a DAR Regent, and her portrait hangs in the DAR Chapter House for her work to create numerous DAR Chapters.

After serving as our Trustee, King then became Vice President General of the Mid Atlantic District in 1987.  He continued to serve on several national committees and received the National Society’s highest honor, the Minuteman Award in 1990.
